Drawing with the Needle: How to Machine Embroider

‘Drawing with the Needle” is a three hour course in basic machine embroidery techniques that will enhance your skills and grow your confidence.

Using any ordinary sewing machine, you will learn how to stitch in any direction and create many different effects to produce a small landscape.

You will need a machine with a “drop feed” facility (most machines have this) and a darning foot - ideally the horseshoe-shaped variety.  Fabric and thread will be provided. Led by Gina May Selene (a teacher and artist with over 30 years’ experience), sessions are supportive and open rather than prescriptive.  Our purpose is to find your style and help it to flourish.

Sessions are held in the classroom at ‘Threads’, Central House, Summerland Road, Minehead, TA24 5BT.

Art for the Terrified: Finding Your Creative Self at No. 16

Most people love art in one form or another.  But while we know what we like, many don’t believe that they can make their own.  A lack of confidence, a sarcastic sibling, dodgy teaching or just a feeling that creativity, particularly anything technical, seems a long way away means that making art seems impossible.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

We believe that everyone has the capacity to make their art in their way.  We’d love to help you find that way.  We have been teaching in many and varied capacities for over 30 years each, and have lots of experience reconnecting people with their creativity.  ‘Reconnecting’ because we have all been creative in the past - particularly as children - we just need to learn to play again.
